Nina Muller
Nina Muller has been with the Sunshine School for over 25 years, and each one is a new adventure. Nina is the science, nature, cooking, health and movement education teacher. There is always something to explore and learn about in her room. It may be the hermit crabs, ants, butterflies, tadpoles, or other critters that visit us, or the nature table that arouse curiosity. This is a "hands-on" room where children are building with small unit blocks, playing with trains, trucks, cars, or plastic horses. At the table, we may be preparing a healthy snack, creating with play dough, marble paints, manipulatives, collages, magnets, or exploring other activities. Imaginations, social interactions and problem solving develop through our play.
Through the weekly 4-year-old movement education program, the children learn how their bodies move. Individually, with a partner, or as a group, we use balls, bean bags, scarves, streamers, balloons, jump ropes, hoops, obstacle courses, or the parachute. We explore balance on high steppers, on beams, and with peacock feathers. We crawl, run, jump, dance, wiggle and move to music. We also have a special unit on fire safety and another on our hearts. These fun activities help us to feel successful, learn about ourselves and develop self-seteem.
Through the 4-year-old Enrichment Program, children experience an expanded program of activities. These programs include an additional science, math, literature, cultural, art and social experiences. As much as our programs are based on learning skills, they are also lots of FUN!
